Challenge Fuerteventura had a new and exciting edition on this 2016. Big names in triathlon like to take part in this race and this year wasn´t an exception.
The participants started the swim with a cloudy sky and very calm water so they were out of the drink pretty fast with the usual suspects such as Bracht, Van Lierde and Boecherer on the top pack. Soon after they went through T1 Van lierde got the leading spot on his Cervelo and started to put a gap between him and Henrik Hyldelund. Sadly Frederik had a crash near the end of the bike stint and had to leave the race. We wish him a quick recovery and a good season.
On arrival at T2 Henrik was leading Andreas Dreitz and Boecherer but the run got the best of him and Boecherer and had to sprint hard to stop Will Clarke from winning the race. Shrotly after Timo Bracht got third place which will make as a good result for the Team Sport for Good member ahead of his big Lanzarote race next month.
The ladies race wasn't easy either but it was a bit more under the control of Anja Beranek who lead form the start to the finish line. However Emma Bilham came a very close second only 1:30 minutes behind. Third was former cycling legend and triathlon legend on the making Emma Pooley who turned in a brilliant half marathon to take the third step of the podium.
As always Playitas Resort was the perfect spot for the race and the people of Fuerteventura welcomed the participants with cheers until the end of the race. Hopefully the new Canarian Challenge in Mogan will be received with just as much illusion.
