So once again the Challenge Family trusted majphotography.com with the action photos for the Challenge Fuerteventura and I thank the organizers for it because it is usually a load of fun. Although, this year I had some "technical" problems with one of my cameras (after dropping it the thing wouldn´t shoot until after the top guys crossed the finish line...) but onwards and upwards, I think we saved the day with the backup machine and a bit of onsite fixing; hitting the Canon until it worked that is.
Anyway enough excuses. It was a beautiful day at Playitas Resort and there was plenty of contenders for the first place on all categories. Olympian and World Series Champion Lisa Norden stated that she was "terrified" of the race since it was not her usual distance, but that proved to be a good incentive since she set a pace hard to follow for her chasers at the podium Elmear Muller and Daniela Saemmler, who took some time out of looking after the baby and managed to get a podium finish on this competitive race.
During the round table on the previous day none of the guys would name give a certain winner for the men´s race proving that nobody was sure of taking the title. The duathlon World champion Joerie Vaansteelant certainly was one to follow since the other guys were uncertain as to how he was going to perform in the swim section. It turned out to be really good as he secured a second place only beaten by a great performance by Jens Toft who took the race with spectacular bike and run sectors. Konstantin Bachor followed on his good stint of results after the win on the Lighthouse Triathlon with a third place on the Challenge Fuerteventura. The Spanish contenders Mikel Elgezabal and Albert Moreno made a top ten finish.
Another greatly organized race by the Trispain team at the splendid venue at Playitas Resort that gave the Fuerteventura residents a great chance to see world class triathletes competing on their very doorstep.
